Every camp season, NICE Academy holds activities aimed to showcase the different skills of students. Last July 5, 2019, the academy conducted its first event for the summer camp – the Speech Day. The room “Pronoun” was adorned by lights and curtains fit for the occasion, transforming it to a room perfect for the contest. The event ran from 10am to 12 noon for the beginners and 1pm to 4pm for the advanced students. This activity aimed to improve the students’ confidence in public speaking and communication to the audience.
The event began with a brief welcoming spiel by the host who was none other than Teacher Paula. After the opening remarks, the students started with an introduction about themselves followed by an informative Grammar lesson. The advanced students, who were asked to do impromptu speeches, were impressive as well. Even though a few had trouble trying to put their thoughts into words, some were able to deliver their speech smoothly with only minimal errors.
The audience were all delighted to hear the students’ opinions on the topics such as; happiness, love, movies, and abortion. They were all amazed to see the students well-prepared and ready to speak in front of their peers and teachers. Some parents even attended the event in support of their children. The entire competition was anything but boring since the audiences were all entertained by song numbers by both teachers and students, electrifying dance moves, and even a showcase of amazing yoyo skills.
The event was closed with the announcement of winners. For the beginners, the Best in Speech Award was given to Clover; for the advanced: Celine. Other students were also given prizes for their efforts. In the end of the day, everyone went home a winner.
